Department of English is commemorating the renowned post colonial thinker and writer Ngugi wa Thiong'o. The program intend to introduce the author and his thoughts and perspectives which he powerfully dissseminated through his writing to resist the colonial powers and to reclaim one's identity, culture and language. It takes real courage for a writer to give up his English writing career just to write in Gikuyu language, his own language as a powerful weapon to go against imperial powers. Discussing such a legend becomes vital in a society who finds happiness in discarding one's own language by telling "anik kurech kurech malayalam areyaam ".It's high time to look into ourselves, are we still colonised or independent atleast in our minds! The program is trying to open the student's mind regarding how they treat their own language and culture and question it from a post colonial lens.
